Neck Pillows

"Don't leave home without it!" That's become our motto when it comes to what we refer to as our "bone pillows". It's the shape that works perfectly for relaxing during car rides or catching a nights sleep while flying. On our last vacation we commented that the pillow should have a strap to make carrying them with us so much easier. The strap can be looped over a wrist or attached to our carry-ons. So with an upcoming trip planned I made new pillows to accompany us.

Bird photos

Saturday was a cold but sunny day. Since we are soon to be leaving on holidays I've lost the "compulsion" to sew all day long so I decided to take advantage of a gorgeous day to snap a few photos. The chickadees were willing subjects, often perching right on my camera lense, while the cardinal and blue jay made just brief appearances to grab a quick bite.

Appliance Covers

This summer I sold some chair pads, placemats and a runner to a customer. Recently they called to order matching appliance covers. It's an item I hadn't done in years and due to the size of the mixer cover I wasn't sure I wanted to. But I did and though I might not readily do more mixer covers, the toaster cover went together very well.

Deck the Halls

Preparing for and doing a Christmas craft sale got me really thinking about Christmas. I put together a treasury for Etsy, showcasing the traditional red and greens.

Happy Holidays!!

Christmas Craft Sale

The craft sale has come and gone. It wasn't what we had hoped for. There were more than 60 vendors, many with great items to sell, but unfortunately the sale was not adequetly advertised and customers were few and far between. But I still managed to sell enough items to more than cover my costs and I received lots of great comments about the quality of the work.

The table was considerably shorter than my dining room table which was itself shorter than the 8 foot one I had been told we would have so everything was a bit crowded. Maybe next time, two tables?

Christmas Craft Sale Preview

It has been quite awhile since I added to my blog. I've been busy. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!

In years past I have done some craft shows but none in recent years. So when a fellow etsian asked me if I was interested in taking part in one in Mississauga my first reaction was to say no. But David suggested it wouldn't hurt to try, so tomorrow it is! I have put together a table full of items and even sewed a vendor's apron for myself. Of course David wanted one too, so I made another one featuring his favorite topic...birds.

Now, off to price and pack up all those items on that table!

Earth and Sky

I wanted to showcase the beautiful work of some of our Quiltsy Team members, and of course my own newest creation, in my latest treasury. I love the combination of browns with blue and the result reminded me of a deep autumn sky over freshly tilled earth.
I was delighted when SuzyQQuilts, one of the quiltsy team members included in my treasury, featured me in her blog. http://suzyquilts.blogspot.com/2009/10/mocha-madness-featured.html
Be sure to check out her beautiful work at http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7654339

Coasting along

I'm getting ready for a craft show and am hoping that these sets of coasters will be the sort of item that someone will purchase on impulse. If not, I will have quite a supply of them!

QuiltyGranny included one of the sets in a beautiful treasury that she curated recently.

Delights 7 Gifts

I was delighted to have my rail fence with windmills quilt included in this beautiful treasury put together by a fellow Quiltsy Team member, QuiltSewCover. Pink and green are my favorite colours!

All dressed up and no place to go.

My plan was to put together a treasury featuring icy cold and glittering snowflakes. Somehow, as I started searching and selecting, it veered off in another direction and ended up sizzling and full of sparkles. According to the comments left, etsian seemed to like it though!

What's old is new again.

I had another old quilt sitting on a shelf for may years and it finally got a much needed makeover too. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the original quilt before I started cutting, but believe me, the "upcycled" version looks much better than the original!!

With the left over squares I even managed a small table runner.

This vintage Dresdan Plate quilt was one I had given my daughter many years ago. When she saw what I was doing with some old, rather tired, quilts she decided to give it back to me so I could work my "magic" on it. With a lot of careful cutting and culling of damaged parts, then hours of machine and hand sewing, I ended up with a quilt which still has many years left in it!

Shhh...the cat is away

....and the mice are at play....

As a kid my nickname was Minnie, as in Minnie Mouse, since it was said I was quiet as a mouse. So I have always had an affinity towards mice. I thought this collection was especailly adorable.

Colourful Treasuries

Then I found my luggage tags featured in this very pretty treasury from HaveFaithBelieve where green was the colour of choice.

When I decided to do one with an orange theme, my Halloween pot holders came up in the search so of course they were included!

I think black and red are striking together, so my bowtie pot holders were the inspiration for this treasury.

Time To Take Tea Today?

And here are just a few of the others that I have made recently........

I've been making tea cosies lately so I guess it was only natural that I was thinking about tea when I put together another treasury.
And of course it was a good way to promote one of my latest listings!

Happy Etsy Day!!!

The only thing better than finding one of my items has been picked for a treasury is finding that it's been picked, completely out of the blue (in this case purple), by someone other than a quiltsy team member. I love the combination of items that Celticcatphotos chose and think my tea cozy and coasters fit right in!

What's In Your Attic

I love the look and feel of this treasury curated by Karol, one of your quiltsy team members. She included my red quilt.

A Treasury Bonanza!

And this one, curated by Quiltfinger, featured my blue and yellow diamond wall hanging.

Both of these, featuring the same reversible table runner, were cleverly pulled together by QuiltingGranny and fabricalacarte.

I found myself featured in three treasuries and made a treasury of my own.

The Chocolate Craze has Cott-on!

This treasury went right to the first page of the 'hotness' scale very quickly....and that's no fabric-ation!

Perhaps I was craving sweets when I started pulling together all these fabric because before I knew it there was a "box of chocolates" before my eyes! I considered buying the selections I had made but when I totalled the cost, and then added on shipping, I thought it best to just continue to drool over them.

Reversible Christmas Table Runner

This reversible runner is pieced and with just a flip can go from everyday use to festive occassion. You no longer need to go seaching for that Christmas runner you put away in January! It's right at your fingertips.

Autumn is coming!

Perhaps it was the cool (make that COLD) wet weekend but my thoughts seemed to be on fall and on Halloween. Small bits of fabric left over from projects from a few years ago and the disappearing 9-patch pattern were the perfect combination for the spooky pot holders.
The table runner is assembled using the reversible quilt technique I've been having fun experimenting with lately. On Friday I took one to my shop in St Jacobs and it sold immediately so I quickly made another one so I could reactivate the listing I had made for it on etsy. It's a runner that can take you from spring and summer, right through fall.

A 2-Treasury Day!

I put together a treasury that I titled Blanketed In Beautiful Blues in which I included an upcycled blue quilt that I made, but my little Tic tac toe game was also included in a treasury by Quilting Granny called Button, button, who has the button.
