Pieced Pot Holders

I was recently introduced to the Disappearing 4-Patch pattern and quickly became addicted to it! The piecing looks complicated but by starting with a simple 4-patch block that is cut into nine pieces it can quickly and easily be reassembled into this attractive 9-patch. Thus, the "disappearing 4-patch". 

 So far the solution to my block building mania has been to turn them into pot holders. But I am sure lap quilts, table runners, and wall hangings can't be too far behind. 

Autumn is coming!

Perhaps it was the cool (make that COLD) wet weekend but my thoughts seemed to be on fall and on Halloween. Small bits of fabric left over from projects from a few years ago and the disappearing 9-patch pattern were the perfect combination for the spooky pot holders.

The table runner is assembled using the reversible quilt technique I've been having fun experimenting with lately. On Friday I took one to my shop in St Jacobs and it sold immediately so I quickly made another one so I could reactivate the listing I had made for it on etsy. It's a runner that can take you from spring and summer, right through fall.

Up-cycled pot holders

I grew up in a home where very little was thrown away. I still have difficulty doing that. But when I came across this goose panel in a box of fabrics I purchased this weekend at a garage sale I really didn't think I would have a use for it....but then the corners caught my eye....just enough fabric there for a pot holder??

It turns out there was, in fact for 4 pot holders, at least with the addition of a strip of coordinating broadcloth. The rick rack trim is along the edge of a pocket. This pocket allows you to slip your hand inside and use the pot holder as you would an oven mitt.
